Mysterious texts for NFL player Ricky Pearsall end up on 12-year-old’s first phone after San Francisco shooting

A 12-year-old boy in Arizona, who just got his first phone, has been receiving a flood of texts meant for San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall.

The former ASU Sun Devil and Tempe native’s old phone number was recently reactivated for Lincoln Schreck.

After Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco on August 31, Schreck’s phone was bombarded with messages wishing the receiver a quick recovery.

‘When I first got the first weird message, I just shrugged it off as nothing,’ the boy said. However, the family started connecting the dots and realized the previous owner of Lincoln’s number.

‘They were like, you know, hope he had a good time at camp. We didn’t put it together. The camp was probably training camp for the NFL. We thought it was some kid going to summer camp,’ Lincoln’s mom, Lindsay Schreck, said.

The last hint came when Lincoln received a ‘get better soon’ text on the day Pearsall was shot.

Lincoln claimed that he was receiving messages from ‘anywhere and everywhere’ all over the country. The family counted at least 100 texts meant for the 49ers newcomer.

When Lincoln finally texted someone saying ‘wrong number’, they finally got a confirmation.

‘It was an NFL player’s former number and that he just got shot, and you’re probably getting a lot of random texts,’ Lincoln shared about a text exchange.

‘Just trying to get their message to whatever they thought this was, Ricky’s number, and to tell him that they hope that he gets better and that they know it’s a tragic time. They are just praying for him,’ Lincoln said.

‘I want Ricky to know that the world loves him apparently because everybody, it’s just, ‘I’m praying for you,’ ‘We love you, man,’ ‘Just hope you get better,’ and we all do hope that.’

Fortunately, Pearsall made a quick recovery after the bullet missed his vital organs despite exiting on his back. The rookie was seen in practice just days after the incident.

The 49ers placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday, sidelining him for the first four games of the season. The Super Bowl contenders will open their season against the New York Jets on September 9.
